GRANTS TO TELL LOCAL HISTORY
Saturday, 23 October 2010
The Member for Macedon, Joanne Duncan today announced that the Romsey Lancefield Historical Society Inc is one of the winners of the Victoria 175 History Grants.
Romsey Lancefield Historical Society Inc has been granted $3200 totransfer three newspapers published in Romsey between 1870 and 1920 from film to CD Rom.
Ms Duncan said the Victoria 175 History Grants aimed to support community organisations who sought to preserve, publish and commemorate the origins of the founding stories of Victoria.
“It is important that we don’t forget the important history and memories of our towns and communities”
“These Victoria 175 History Grants recognise the importance of sharing the stories and detailing the events which have shaped our local areas,” Ms Duncan said.
“Importantly, in telling these stories, we all get to learn about those local organisations and individuals who contributed so much to the towns in which we now live.”
“More than $287,000 in grants have been provided to community organisations and this funding reflects Victoria’s cultural diversity across regional and metropolitan areas,” Ms Duncan said.
“Forty seven community groups received funding for projects that tell the stories behind individuals or organisations that have contributed to Victoria.”
Ms Duncan said the Victoria 175 History Grants program was part of a series of initiatives to mark the 175th anniversary of both Melbourne and the first European settlement in what became Victoria.
The Victoria 175 History Grants program is administered by Public Record Office Victoria on behalf of the Department of Premier and Cabinet.
